Crescent Dough

Prep: 15 mins + rising time | Cook Time: 15 mins | Course: Baked Goods | Serves: 32

Homemade crescent dough is a dream to roll and work with. Make pigs in a blanket, Mediterranean beef sandwiches or whatever else is called for with delicious homemade dough. Inspired by Tessa Arias at Handle the Heat https://handletheheat.com/make-crescent-rolls/#wprm-recipe-container-26355

4 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1 Tbsp yeast

2 Tbsp sugar

2 eggs

¾ cup warm milk

¼ cup warm water

½ cup butter, softened + more for rolling rolls

Egg wash:

1 egg

1 Tbsp water

Mix flour, salt, yeast and sugar in a stand mixer. Add in eggs, milk, water and butter. Mix for 3 minutes until the dough comes together and the dough begins to get stretchy. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow to rise for an hour. Divide the dough in half and roll each dough ball with a rolling pin into a large 16”-17” circle on a lightly floured rolling surface. For crescent rolls or pigs in a blanket, cut dough with a rolling pizza cutter into half, forming triangles (as you would for a pizza), you should have 14-16 triangles. For rolls, spread the dough with about 4 tablespoons of softened butter and roll the dough up beginning at the large end of the triangle. For hot dogs, omit extra butter and roll around plant-based hot dogs or cooked hot dogs beginning with the large end of the dough. Place on an oiled or silpat-lined baking sheet and allow to rise for half an hour. Brush rolls with egg wash before baking. Preheat the oven to 400*. Bake for about 15 or until golden brown.
