Sourdough Cornbread

Light, fluffy sourdough cornbread is great with whipped honey cinnamon butter. Inspired by Joy Makers and Co https://joymakersandco.com/the-best-sweet-soft-sourdough-cornbread/ 


1 cup flour 

1 cup cornmeal 

¼ cup sugar 

2 tsp baking powder 

½ tsp baking soda 

½ tsp salt 

½ cup sourdough starter 

½ cup milk 

2 eggs 

1 tsp vanilla, optional 

½ cup butter, melted but not hot


Preheat oven to 375*. Butter or spray oil a 9 “ deep dish pie plate or 9” square baking dish and set to one side. In a large mixing bowl, whisk flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, mix sourdough starter, milk, eggs, and vanilla if using. Stir liquids into the flour mix, then add the butter. Spread evenly into the prepared dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden on top and a toothpick tester comes out batter-free.

Whipped Honey Cinnamon Butter

Delicious honey cinnamon butter whipped into a lightened spread for delicious morning toast or cornbread.

½ cup butter, softened

2 Tbsp honey

1 Tbsp ground cinnamon

Whip the butter, honey, and cinnamon together with a mixer until fluffy. Spread into a ramekin for serving on your favorite baked goods.
