Lemon Sugar

Brightly flavored lemon sugar is just a zest away. My daughter and I made donuts and shook them into this lovely bag of lemon sugar. She always inspires me! I’m sure you’ve seen the little packets of expensive flavored sugars in gourmet shops; here’s how to make it. Along with being great with donuts or sprinkled on baked goods, it’s lovely in tea or for rimming a cocktail glass.
2 cups sugar
2 lemons, zested
Place a sheet of parchment on a baking sheet and set to one side. Zest the peel from 2 lemons into 2 cups of sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir until combined and spread out onto a baking sheet to dry overnight. In the morning (or after a few hours of drying time) pour the sugar into a mason jar or glass lidded container. If using to shake donuts/pastry, pour into a ziplock bag before drying while the pastry is still hot out of the fryer.
