Caramelized Onion Hamburger and Green Olive Pizza
Prep Time: 15 mins | Cook Time: 25 mins | Course: Dinner | Serves: 4
This is one of our new favorite pizza combos. The sweet onions and burger with the salty olives and melty cheese is perfection. I’ve linked my favorite pizza dough below, or you could use store-bought dough or ready-formed crust. I cut this pizza recipe in half and made 2 pizzas with it, the full recipe makes 4 pizzas. You can refrigerate or even freeze any unused portions of dough for another time.
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 large sweet onion, diced
1 lb hamburger
1 cup green olives, halved
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar
16 oz ciliegine mozzarella balls, halved
½ cup green onions, sliced
2 pizza dough balls, rolled out, raised, and ready to fill.
Preheat the oven to 500*. Saute the onion in olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes or until the onions are translucent and turning a caramelly light brown color. Stir in the hamburger and cook until the burger is cooked through, about another 5 minutes. Turn off the heat while you make the pizza sauce.
Pizza Sauce:
5 medium tomatoes (or a 15 oz tin of tomatoes)
¼ cup of onion cut into chunks
2 cloves of garlic
2 Tbsp olive oil
Garlic salt and pepper, to taste
Dried oregano, to taste
Blend pizza sauce ingredients together in your blender for about 2 minutes or until the sauce is pureed and a bit thickened. Spread a generous layer of sauce over your pizza crusts and spread evenly, sprinkle with cheddar cheese, and add sliced mozzarella balls, green olives, and the caramelized onion hamburger mixture between the two pizzas. Bake for 12-14 minutes. The edges will be browned and the underside of the dough when lifted with a spatula will be golden in color and cooked through rather than doughy in the middle. Remove pizzas from the oven and add the green onions.
