Tomato Hamburger Shell Soup

A chunky tomato and hamburger soup with pasta shells. Serve with basil and freshly grated parmesan cheese.
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 onion, diced
1 ½ lbs hamburger
3 cloves garlic, minced
15 oz diced tomatoes
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp onion salt
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 quart beef or chicken broth
7 oz small pasta shells
Parmesan cheese, for garnish
Basil, for garnish
In a stockpot over medium heat, stir onions in the olive oil until they just begin to caramelize, about 5 minutes. Drop hamburger in chunks and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic, tomatoes, italian seasoning, onion salt, salt, pepper, and broth. Bring to a boil, then add the pasta shells. Cook for 9 minutes. Serve with parmesan cheese, and basil.
